My daughter, 5, has a vanity table with Sephora skincare & RETINOL... mum-shamers say it's 'too strong' but I don't care | The US Sun

Nov 07, 2024

A WOMAN has found herself brutally mum-shamed after revealing her five-year-old kid allegedly uses posh skincare and even RETINOL.

Growing up, most of us probably went through our mum's make-up bag, whether that meant using her lip balm or blush on cheeks.

But one five-year-old girl, who lives with the Stevens Family (@stevensfam), already has her very own vanity table that's filled to the brim with popular high-end skincare.

According to the mum-of-three, her young daughter has amassed an impressive collection of skin products - and some social media users have even spotted retinol, which has led to major backlash and shaming.

Although there is no right or wrong age to incorporate this skincare essential, beauty experts typically advise to use retinol as you enter your late 20s to prevent the first signs of ageing.

As its formula is relatively harsh, repeated use of retinol at a young age can '' begin to thin out your skin and will eventually make you more susceptible to UVA rays'', Into the Gloss reported.

What's more, the now-viral video, where the young girl could be seen using the products, also saw some claiming they had noticed Vitamin C serum - yet another ingredient deemed ''too strong'' for a kid.

Despite being mum-shamed, the parent didn't seem to be that bothered, as she proudly wrote in the caption: ''It's expensive around here.

''Y'all hate the ten-year-old Sephora kids... Wait until you find out about the five-year-olds.''

Since being shared on the platform less than a week ago, the clip has racked up more than a whopping 6million views.

Gobsmacked, over 21k people raced to comments, where they criticised the mother.

One was lost for words, writing: ''I literally see a retinol and vitamin c, both are way too strong.''

Someone else was just as stunned, adding: ''I don’t even have a skin care routine and I turn 21 in a week, way too expensive.''

''Nah that’s crazy,'' another chimed in.

''When I was five, I was trying to figure out why I didn't get the right doll,'' a fourth penned.

Children should not use retinol on their skin, unless advised otherwise by a doctor

Recently another mum found herself shamed by trolls after ''spoiling'' her kid, 10, with a Gucci bag, Nike slippers and the on-trend Sol de Janeiro spray for Christmas.

Parent Courtney Gibson showered her daughter with a number of goodies over the festive season, some of which included a real Gucci bag that cost her more than £270, a pair of fuzzy Nike slippers which go for around £40 on Etsy, as well as an adorable bracelet from Pandora.

Another item the kid had reportedly asked for was a set of facial rollers, a fancy coconut whip toothpaste from Hi Smile, £10, and the viral body spray by Sol de Janeiro.

But whilst the ten-year-old, who also got books from Tesco, may have been all chuffed with the pressies, the reaction online was brutal.

''You got a ten year old makeup and a Gucci bag… read that again. There’s something wrong with this generation,'' wrote one.

Another agreed, writing: ''This is so sad. 10 years old and not a toy in sight.''

''My goodness, things have changed, at 10 we wanted toys, we didn't even think of our skin, they're adult gifts, being a child is a gift, they're losing childhood,'' someone else penned.

''Very sad. Nice gifts for maybe somebody older but please let her be a child. This is why apps like this ruin kids today,'' a fourth said.
